The musicians of Bremen
I'm sure you've read it as a child. Apparently if you hold donkeys leg and close your eyes, you can make a wish ?😉
It was a late start this morning as breakfast wasn't until 8am
5kms down the road was the old market town of Zeven.
' a deal has just been made for the foal'
It's only 50kms into Bremen on quiet roads. Very flat countryside and the usual huge houses. It's Saturday morning and everywhere people are out in their gardens
The route follows an old railway line and then into Bremen along a dyke. This is a book exchange, free ,but all in German
Aldi's for lunch. We need these guys in NZ
We pass through a park on the way into the city . These were air raid shelters
The gps takes us straight to Jurgen and Renate's place. We are staying the night here. What a stroke of luck meeting this lovely couple and after a shower and a cup of tea, Jurgen took us on a tour of Bremen. There's an art festival on
The park hotel
The peace tunnel. A citizens reaction to the horror of 9/11
The old town , very busy with the festival happening
This statue symbolises the freedom that enabled Bremen to virtually govern itself. The sign on the building behind says to remember your brothers behind the Berlin wall
This part of town was designed by an artist, modern ! Hitler was intending to demolish it all
after the war . It boasts a Glochenspiel clock
We thought about hiring this 8 seater but the next part of town is even narrower
The old police station is now the library. Totally modern on the inside
Note the tree house/ coffee lounge
The wedding hotel! Just one room.
Renate had made us a lovely meal by the time we got back to the house. It's been an amazing day and I think Bremen is one of my favourite cities .
