Crossing Hamburg

It's a bit depressing when you're 'racing' along at 20kms and people are shooting past you all dressed up in their suits on their way to work. It was 20k into the city centre and pretty scary!

Then you come up behind the likes of this dad pushing baby along.

The areas a bit seedy now and you don't want to leave your bike out overnight. ( damn ,that carrier looks good )
Council housing

The old warehouses of the Kontorhaus district are UNESCO listed

After looking around the old city we took the underground tunnel to the other side of the harbour

It even takes cars down in this lift. I suppose when it was built in 1910 it would also take horse and carts

What a tortuous route out of the city going south. 11kms later there were still canals, wharves ships...
After we'd cleared the canals the road went west for 20kms, still part of the city. 2 million people live here ,half the population of NZ

It was a relief to finally get clear ,and turn southwest towards Zeven.
Problem was, the accommodation suddenly ran out also. We were starting to worry a bit as it was now 5pm.
WHEW ,close to Zeven at Heeslingen we came across a lovely hotel. Didn't plan on going
90kms , that beds going to feel good

Oh ,and this incredible piece of art using vintage tractors is just along the street
