German🇩🇪

I just realised as I was writing in today's mileage that yesterday when we'd finished we had just clocked up our first thousand kms🤗
A few minutes down the road we came to the German border

"Nothing to declare officer"
Flensburg was a further 6kms. We're Starting to see graffiti again! We were spoiled in Denmark .

It's still a very pretty town. We were here about 5 years ago in a camper so we're not dwelling here this time. The information centre had nothing about the trail we are taking , now called the ochsenweg, but did say it was well marked.
Ok , we'll just wing it !

Started off running beside the road to Schleswig, then made a turn off into a forest

Oh my God, this was turning into a cross country hike. When we reached this house we half expected to see Hansel and Gretal run out

By coffee time we had reached Schleswig. This art in the water was one of several that local schools had done on the edge of the harbour

Me ! I was just happy to have found a NZ flag for the bike. Sorry Tracy, yours fell off

The Trail runs beside the main road south to Rendsburg now and with a good tail wind we fair ate up the miles ( kms )

By 3.30 we were in town looking for the info centre. This lady asked Christine for some money, said she needed a drink! At least she was honest about it 😚

Ah ! The info centre. Another beautiful old town but today for no apparent reason, nearly all accommodation was taken. The helpful young girl at the info centre finally found us a room in a Zimmer. (BnB come hostel)
Anyway it's fine, just have to share a bathroom . We're in euros now, 50€. About $81

We are just 100 metres from the Keil canal. 98 kms of canal that links the Baltic to the North Sea ( google it )
That travel lift bridge has a ferry hung from a rolling gantry by long wires. You just roll onto the ferry on one side and it pulls itself across to the other side like a flying fox. Least ways it did until recently when it was hit by a ship 😡
There are several in Europe still operating, this one is different in that the train runs across the top.
Hoping to reach Hamburg tomorrow so I must get some shut eye
