Orthez

Sunday morning is a good day to ride out of a city . At 7.30 there was hardly a car around so we took the 'national' road south to St Sever. It cut out about 6 kms of back roads.

There was complete cloud cover when we left but then it peeled back like a giant blind to reveal another sunny day

St Sever. Once the capital of this region and an important stopover for pilgrims. When we arrived, the doors were open, the candles lit, people were streaming into town.....
Then queued for the fresh bread at the boulangerie.

We got off the N road here and followed an alternative 'cycle' route. Oh boy!😰😢
Winding and STEEP

Finally Hagetmau.

A common water pump, you wind the handle . It's getting warmer !
We bit the bullet and went back on the N road for the last 25 kms into Orthez. Not too bad but Christine finds the traffic stressful. Only 62 kms today but the hills made it feel like 100.

Anyway the hotel's nice with a good restaurant
