Sarria

As we waited for the manager to unlock the bike shed, this old lady was watering all the flowers in the town square.

Counting down . We're only planning on 30kms today as we are about to climb over the Ancares range, the highest pass on the Camino.

18 kms on at Vega del Valcarce. It's coffee time before we start climbing.
I think these two are a bit optimistic pushing their gear on roller blades.😳

By following the old N road we added 5 kms to the top but the gradients were more manageable. The shorter route had some 9% grades which we would have trouble even pushing up. See the new motorway? That's why the N road is deserted.

O Cebreiro. 4 hours from Villafranca we reach the top. We must be getting fitter !

More travelling buskers. 'Where do they get the ENERGY'

It's mostly downhill for about 40kms so we decide to push on to Sarria.

This Italian couple are travelling with their baby. We caught up to them on each hill and then they'd pull away again .
And then there was Sione from Tonga

Outside the Samos monastery . It was the jersey I noticed first.
79 kms today. We've got an hotel right at the entrance to town where we can relax with a beer and watch the pilgrims arriving.

A lot of people start from here onwards. They hire a bike and hope for the best. You can sometimes pick them out.
